Dr. Shouldice originates from Ottawa Ontario, Canada. He practices all aspects of ophthalmology with a special interest in cataract surgery, clear lens refractive surgery and pediatric ophthalmology. Dr. Shouldice loves working with children.
He received his Bachelor of Science under-graduate degree in Biology at the University of Ottawa in 1975. He went on to receive his medical degree from the University of Ottawa as well in 1979. His medical surgical internship was completed at the Waikato Hospital in Hamilton, New Zealand in 1980 affiliated with the University of Auckland.
Dr. Shouldice returned to Canada and completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Ottawa in 1984. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 1984. He received his board certification in ophthalmology in 1985.
In 1985, Dr. Shouldice moved to Pittsfield, MA to join Dr. John Galt and subsequently Berkshire Eye Center. Dr. Shouldice is also on the full time staff at Berkshire Medical Center and in addition, has an associate position at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
Dr. Shouldice is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, an active Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, a member of American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive surgery and New England Ophthalmological Society.
Along with his loving wife, JoAnn, he has three children. Chris, his oldest, is a tax lawyer in Chicago, IL; Jeff his second eldest, is an architectural engineer in Vancouver, Canada and Jennifer, his youngest and only daughter, is pursuing a teaching career. Apart from annual treks to New Zealand, Dr. Shouldice is an avid skier, cyclist, swimmer and scuba diver enthusiast. Weekends are often spent enjoying the Berkshires and also at Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. With all of his children grown, it may seem like an empty nest, but not really. With the love of their dogs, he and his wife, at last count still have more than enough to keep them busy.
When asked how Dr. Shouldice wants to care for his patients, he said,
